Chapter 6 Flashcards
What is an advantage to clustering
Efficient use of employes time
A condition that is abrupt in onset is described as
Acute
Reminder cards should be mailed
A week before the date of the appointment
Two systems of appointment scheduling
Manual & computerized
Matrix
Blocking off unavailable appointment times
Advised to block off 15-30 min each morning to accommodate emergencies, late arrivals, and other delays
Appointment book
Manual system for scheduled appointments. Provides space for noting appointments for an entire year.
Make sure has space for pertinent info divided into time units 10-15 minute intervals
Clustering
Grouping patients with similar problems or needs
Advantages of clustering ease of maintaining control of the schedule
A chronic problem is one that is
Longstanding
Who is authorized to make the decision whether to see a walk in patient or not
Provider
Wave system
Several patients are scheduled the first 30 minutes of each hour . They are seen in the order that they arrive in office. The second half of each hour is left open.
Fixed scheduling
Most commonly used method. It divides each hour into increments of 15,30,45,or 60 minutes. The reason for each visit will determine the length of each visit
Streaming
minimize gaps in time and backups. Appointments are given based on the needs of the patient
Flexible hours
Open different times during the week this greater range of available appointment times better accommodate work and family schedules
Open hours
Commonly seen in emergency walk in clinics and they may arrive at any time during those hours.
Disadvantages
- effective time management is almost impossible
- the facilities may be overloaded at some times and empty at other times
- charts must be pulled and prepared as each patient arrives
Double booking
Two patients scheduled for the same period with the same physician.
-It leaves time to see both patients without keeping either one waiting unnecessarily
