A sentence that expresses the main idea of the paragraph in which it occurs
Topic sentence
Using words to tell a reader about the content of your essay to help them understand clearly
Signpost
A word that has meaning and contributes to the sentence’s meaning
Content word
A reference to a source or an excerpt or quotation
Citation
To acknowledge the source of the information referred to in work
Referencing
A rewording of something writing or spoken by someone else
Paraphrase
Copied, quoted, or translated in exactly the same words were used originally
Verbatim
A list of sources referred to in the scholarly work, typically written as an appendix
Bibliography
