What is a social status?
A Social Status is a chosen role in society, usually the persons occupation.
What is an ascribed status?
An Ascribed Status is fixed at birth, usually people who are born into power or wealth.
What is an achieved status?
An Achieved Status is an earned role through hard work at dedication.
What is a master status?
A Master Status is the primary thing known about an individual
What is the importance of effective communication in our society?
Effective Communication is important because keeping a level of civility through tone and body language between both parties, leads to a mutual respect and benefit towards one another.
What do roles, role conflicts, and role strains have to do with our way of coping
in society?
Role conflict and strains occur when people have trouble meeting their expectations in their role.
What is the concept of Solidarity as it relates to the field of Sociology?
Solidarity is what holds a group together with mutual social values.
What are the New York State Blue Code laws regarding homeless populations?
The NYS Code Blue laws state that unhoused people legally need to be provided shelter during the winter months
What are the New York Squatting Laws regarding homeless population?
Squatters can claim tenants rights after 30 days on continuous occupation.
What is Social Class from a Max Weber standpoint?
Social Class is defined as a large group of
people who rank close to one another in property, power, and prestige.
What is “Vertical Mobility”?
Vertical Mobility is the increase of social status (ex. middle class to upper class)
What is Poverty?
Poverty is the inability to survive in the world due to poor financial circumstances.

US Poverty Rate: 14.4%
What were President Bill Clinton’s 1996 welfare reform laws?
Clinton launched PRWORA, a revamped welfare with new requirements and a five year limit on benefits. This decreased the amount of people who received welfare.
