Chapter 5: Quality Assurance and Lab Accreditation Flashcards
Sensitivity
How good is the test at finding positive exams? If it’s there it will be found if the test is sensitive.
Dead zone
Tests the ability of reflectors to be accurately imaged within the first centimeter of the sound beam as it leaves the transducer.
When the dead zone shifts deeper, then the pulsing of the system or a transducer element may be compromised.
Positive predictive value
How many positive exams the test correctly identifies as positive.
Negative predictive value
How many negative exams the test identifies at negative/normal.
Registration
The ability to accurately identify a pin with accuracy in size and location.
What is the difference between a test object and a phantom with regards to US callibration?
Test object does not mimic tissue and phantoms do.
Phantom:
- calibration and slice-thickness test objects evaluate the elevational plane (the thickness/3D portion of the beam)
- tissue-mimicking/tissue-equivalent/grayscale phantoms
- Doppler phantoms or test objects.
Comprehensive maintenance much be performed at least how often?
Semiannually
What certifying agency offers credentialing exams for cardiac and vascular testing?
CCI: Cardiovascular Credential International
What are the Accrediting agencies in ultrasound?
ACR: american college of radiology
AIUM: American institute of ultrasound in medicine
IAC: Intersocietal accreditation commission
What are the Credentialing organizations in ultrasound?
ARDMS: American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography
ARRT: American registry of radiologic technologists
CCI: Cardiovascular credential international
What describes the system’s ability to place echoes i the proper location horizontally and perpendicular to the sound beam?
Horizontal callibration
