Chapter 5 pt.3 Flashcards
What did Hubel and Wiesel discover
They discovered feature detectors when examining the cortex of Cats and Monkeys
What are Simple cells
feature detecting cells that respond to small stationary bars of light at specific angles
What are complex cells
they respond to lines of specific orientations in motion
What is the ventral stream (what stream)
Takes information from the occipital lobe to the temporal lobe, it is where information is completely identified
What is the Doral stream (where pathway)
carries information to the parietal lobe and identifies where the object is
What is a wavelength
the physical distance from one energy cycle to the next.
- changes in wavelength are changed perceived in colour
What types of wavelengths create what color
Long- red
medium- green
short-blue
What are the three types of cones
Short(s) cones - respond to blue
Medium(m) cones- respond to green
Long(L) cones- respond to reds
What is the Trichromatic theory
States that colour information is identified by comparing the activation of different cones
What is deuteranopia
Colour-blindness - when green cones have red photopigment
What is protanopia
Color-blindness- when red cones have green photopigment
What happens after the cones are activated (in colour)
The message is sent to the midget bipolar cells and then to the P-cells
What colours are paired
green-red
blue-yellow
black-white
