What is a pure substance?
A substance that is made up of only one type of particle
What is the particle theory of matter?
A theory that describes the composition and behaviour of matter
What is a mixture?
A substance that is made up of at least two different types of particles
What is a mechanical mixture?
A mixture in which you can distinguish between different types of matter
What is a solution
A uniform mixture of two or more substances
What is an alloy?
A solid solution of two or more metals
What is a physical property?
A characteristic of a substance that can be determined without changing the composition of that substance
What is a qualitative property?
A property of a substance that is not measured and does not have a numerical value, such as colour, odour, and texture
What is a quantitative property?
A property of a substance that is measured and has a numerical value, such as temperature, height, and mass
What is lustre?
Shininess or dullness
What is clarity?
The ability to allow light through; thin blue glass is clear and transparent
What is brittleness
Breakability or flexibility
What is viscosity?
The ability of a substance to flow or pour readily
What is hardness?
The relative ability to scratch or be scratched by another substance
What is malleability?
The ability of a substance to be hammered Into a thinner sheet or molded
