Chapter 5- Impacts Of Climate Change Flashcards
1
Q
What is a social impact of food security?
A
- No one can eat - disease, famine, livestock dying.
- Conflict - people dying
- Business - no jobs = no money
2
Q
What is a economic impact of food security?
A
Businesses - little money going into the economy, no jobs = no money, low income families struggle.
3
Q
Impacts on agriculture?
A
- Agricultural land becomes unusable (deforestation)
* Crops would be wiped out due to flooding. Less crops = market prices decrease.
4
Q
Impacts regarding sea level change?
A
- Coastal land is at risk of flooding.
- sea defences are under more stress.
- 80 million lives are currently under threat.
5
Q
Impacts regarding water and ice?
A
- More mass movement occurs as glaciers melt.
- Communities that use the melted water from the glaciers may see this supply decrease.
- Economies that rely on Skiing may suffer as the skiing season is decreased through lack of snow (negative impact on tourism).
6
Q
Impact on population?
A
People migrate from areas suffering droughts. Any that don’t risk starvation or lack of water.
•As the global population increases, more people will be living in cities located on the coast which then results in more people being negatively impacted by coastal flooding.
