User Centred Design
Designing products that comprehensively accommodate the full range of needs, wants and values
Purpose
The intent use of a product which is central to it’s meeting specification.
Functionality
How the product will be used and how well it performs it’s task.
Innovation
The creation of something that didn’t previously exist.
Authenticity
The extent to which consumers needs have genuinely been addressed and values.
Anthropometrics
Scientific measurements of how the human body applied to design and construction of products.
Ergonomics
The study of how people interact with products and their working environment.
BSI
British Standards Institute which includes data on height, weight, grip etc. of population
Quantitive
Measurable approach predicts the physical fit of a product
Qualitative
Opinion based approach that predicts user comfort and satisfaction.
Aesthetics
The visual attraction of a product
Form over Function
Prioritising aesthetics more than functional requirements e.g. Phillipe Starch
Form follows Function
The aesthetics of a product are dictated by the way it works.
