Chapter 5 - Application Software Flashcards
These programs illustrated step-by-step instructions to guide users through unfamiliar skills
Educational Software
In addition to the traditional atlases, dictionaries, and thesauri available on CD and DVD, many other types of _____________ are available online
Reference Software
Are programs that lets you create or edit two-dimensional, line-based drawings
Drawing Software
Examples of this are Accounting Software & Web page authoring software
Home Business Software
What are the two (2) software under Home Business Software
- Accounting Software
- Web page authoring software
Software that comes with your computer
Pre-Installed Software
Helps project managers easily create and modify scheduling charts which help managers plan and track specific tasks and coordinate personnel resources
Project Management Software
Is a program hosted in a web site that does not require a large installation on your computer
Web-Based Software
Stores sales and client-contact information in one central database.
Customer Relationship Management Software
These are important to businesses as they consolidate multiple systems into one and improve coordination of these business areas across multiple department.
Enterprise Resource Planning Systems
These are now popular that the more traditional mapping software programs because they are easily accessible with any internet connection and are updated more frequently.
Online Mapping Services
Programs are a form of 3D modeling that engineers use to create automated designs, technical drawings, and model visualizations
Computer-Aided Design (CAD)
It is a method used by the software industry to design, produce and test high-quality software. The goal of the SDLC is to deliver high quality software that meets or exceeds customer expectations, to be completed within timeframes and cost estimates.
Software Development Life Cycle
These are programs that help solve and meet user problems and needs directly. They are designed to perform specific functions which make daily activities easier and facilitate the performance of work efficiently and effectively.
Application Software
Comes prepackaged and is available from software vendors. It must be purchased.
Commercial software
Software developed and released as demonstration versions of their commercial product. Each demonstration copy has an expiration date, which gives the user ample time to evaluate and decide whether to purchase the product.
Shareware
Software created by generous programmers and released to the public domain or free for public use.
Open source
Used to create and edit documents such as research papers and letters.
Word-processing software
Enables you to perform calculations and numerical analyses easily. It helps manipulate numerical data with built-in formulas.
Spreadsheet software
Used to create dynamic slideshows.
Presentation software
Replaces management tools typically found on a traditional desk, like a calendar, address book, notepad, and to-do list.
Personal Information Manager (PIM) software
A complex electronic filing system.
Database software
A group of software sold as a package. They offer integrated applications.
Software Suites
Helps to prepare tax returns and manage finances.
Personal Financial Software
Enables editing of photos, videos, and audio files.
Digital Media Editing Software
Helps with recording and editing audio files.
Digital Audio software
Allows you to organize media files and easily search and categorize them.
Media Management software
The most critical and fundamental step in the SDLC process. This stage involves feedback from clients, sales departments, consumer studies, and industry experts. The goal is to prepare the product’s approach and analyze its feasibility from economic, operational, and technical perspectives.
Planning and Requirement Analysis
After completing the requirement review, the next step is to clearly identify and record the specifications of the product and gain approval from market analysts or consumers.
Defining Requirements
This stage describes the product’s architectural modules, including communication and data flow representation, external or third-party modules, and internal design details. The architecture should be clearly defined in the Detailed Design Specification (DDS).
Designing the Product Architecture
Testing is done throughout all stages of the SDLC. In many cases, research activities are carried out at various stages.
Testing the Product
This stage involves actual production. The programming code is created based on the DDS. If the design is detailed and structured, generating the code should proceed smoothly.
Building or Developing the Product
When the product has been tested and ready to be deployed, it will be officially launched on the appropriate market. Often product deployment takes place in stages, as per the company’s business plan
Deployment in the Market and Maintenance
Enumerate 6 steps of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
Step 1: Planning and Requirement Analysis
Step 2: Defining Requirements
Step 3: Designing the Product Architecture
Step 4: Building or Developing the Product
Step 5: Testing the Product
Step 6: Deployment in the Market and Maintenance
