What was the French and Indian war?
This war happened mostly in the Ohio river valley which is the area between the Ohio river and the Mississippi River.After the war the colonists had more room the expand.The British signed a piece treaty with the French and the Indians for them to get all the land to the left of the Appalachian mountains. This was not fair the the colonists because some had already settled in that area.
What is a militia?
Militias are small groups of people trained to fight. Like soldiers.
What does tyranny mean?
A tyranny is when a ruler is over using their power.
What is the definition for repeal?
To Repeal is to officially pull or cancel a law.
What does it mean to boycott?
Boycotting is when you refuse to buy or participate is something. This is also a peaceful way of protesting.
What was King George like and when did he rule?
King George was labeled very stupid, stubborn and proud. He was crowned in 1760 and died in 1820. He believed that he controlled the colonists. He also passed three laws called the proclamation of 1763, the Stamp Act(1765) and the Quartering Act(1765).
During the Proclamation act of 1763 how did the colonists and the British react towards each other?
This law required the colonists to stay east of the Appalachian mountains. The colonists protested by sending letters and articles saying that is was tyranny. The British ignored all the letters and expanded the army in America to 7500.
During the Stamp Act(1765) how did the colonists and the British react towards each other?
The Stamp Act(1765) required the colonists to buy stamps for any paper they used, including newspaper and cards. The colonists started attacking the tax collectors and sending messages that said that they had no say is the law and that was a violation to them. After some months the British repealed the Stamp Act and the colonists celebrated.
During the Quartering Act(1765) how did the colonists and the British react towards each other?
The Quartering act(1765) law required the colonists to provide all that the British troops needed. The colonists said that it was no different than the stamp act. The British reacted by refusing t let the assembly meet until they agreed to obey the Quartering Act.
Who was Charles Townshend?
Charles Townshend, also known as “champagne Charlie” placed the Townshend acts and was able to pass them because he was part of parliament. He was also England’s ruling body under the king.
What were the Townshend acts?
The Townshend acts placed taxes on imports from Great Britain. The colonists were upset because they had no voting right in the assembly. Samuel Adams said the the act violates the rights of the colonists. The colonists decided to boycott all the British imports. The colonists were secretly trading with ours and the women were helping by making the necessities for all.
Why did lord north repeal the Townshend acts?
Lord north repealed the Townshend act because they were losing a bunch of money. They only left the tax on tea but they were sill angry.
What was Patrick Henry’s Idea?
He said that, “ I am not a Virginian, I am an American!” But most others were not ready for that.
What happened in the first continental congress?
They decided to boycott British goods to stop the intolerable acts. If that didn’t work they would meet again later.
What were the intolerable acts?
The British closed the harbors until the tea was paid for. The government of Massachusetts was firmly under British control. British soldiers accused of murder would be tried in England. And more soldiers were sent to Boston to make sure the colonists followed the law.
