The skull, vertebrae, ribs, and sternum
Bony Thorax
Ribs, sternum, and thoracic vertebrae
Cartilaginous Joint
Bones united by cartilage; no joint cavity is present
Compact Bone
Dense and looks smooth and homogenous
Diaphysis
Elongated shaft of a long bone
Pelvic Girdle
Incomplete bony basin formed by the two coxal bones and the sacrum
Periosteum
Double-layered connective tissue membrane that covers and nourishes the bone
Red Marrow
Inside medullary cavity, in infants, red blood cells are formed
Short Bones
Cubed shaped, contains spongey bone
Shoulder girdle
Composite of two bones, scapula and clavicle, that attach to the upper limb to the axial skeleton; also called the pectoral girdle
