Multimedia is digital content that combines the different forms of media - audio, text, video, image, etc…
What is a multimedia platform?
A multimedia platform is a space that is used to store, share and view multimedia content.
What are some examples of multimedia platforms?
- Microsoft PowerPoint and Prezi
- Social media sites like Instagram
- Website hosting services - contain widgets
Criteria to choose the right platform?
- Budget and availability of the platform
- Will it suit your content?
- Who is your audience and what is your content?
Posts vs Pages
- Posts are individual items that you can add to a scrolling page.
- A page is a location for items you want to stay visible - bio.
Benefits of using a specialist media streaming service to host your audio and video files.
- You can embed a media player from that service in a page in your site as, helping you:
- Have a higher capacity to stream this content.
- Make it easier to stream content from other platforms.
Benefits of using a word processor to create text media.
- They have powerful editing capabilities when it comes to text, compared to other platforms.
Functions of a word processor:
- Proofing functions - spellcheck, dictionary, thesaurus.
- Track Changes

What does DAW stand for?
Digital Audio Workstation
What is the purpose of a test recording made before that actual recording session?
To check audibility and quality of the audio.
Outline vs Script:
- General overview - segment by segment.
- Actual words spoken
Purpose of a show notes document?
To provide the listener with extra information about the topic, like external links.
Trim tool’s function?
Removes parts of an audio clip.
Embedding
Placing consent from a different source into a document, webpage or social media post. This content is usually stored in a different place - like a streaming media server, then connected to the actual document/webpage/post using a URL.
What needs to be agreed upon before creating a video?
- Technical standards - how the content should be recorded.
- The content - What should be filmed?
- The style - Hiw the content should look.
What are the technical standards of a video?
- Aspect ratio/ screen format (16:9)
- Resolution and file type (Full HD)
What is the criteria regarding the content of the video?
- Each crew decides on a division of work.
- Each crew decides on a brief for their work.
- They create a shot list for each crew (stuff that needs to be ‘shot’ or recorded on video)
What are the aspects of style in a video?
- Location and background
- Shot type
- Camera movement
- Framing - where will you place the subject in the frame?
What is a rough cut?
A rough cut is an early version of a video with all the clips in correct order, but is still needs further editing like the addition of text, captions and other effects.
What is a cutaway shot?
A cutaway shot is a shot that shows a different viewpoint in the video, increasing viewer engagement. They also provide content and help the viewer understand the mood and environment of a situation.
How can captions improve a video?
They can provide context in what’s happening and sometimes even extra information, for the viewer’s understanding.
