chapter 5 Flashcards
3 skins
epidermis
dermis
hyperdermis
epidermis
(A-vascular) (no blood vessels) karatonized, stratified, squamous, epithelium
all in one all tissues.. the cells are karatinocyte, melinocye, langerhans, mercels
dermis
(vascular) (does have blood) areolar CT papillary layer, iregularDWFCT, reticular layer all are tissues
cells are fibroblasts
hypodermis
adipose are the tissue and the cells and idiposcytes
sebaceous glands “oil glands”
makes sebum (earwax)=oil hydrophobic
FXN: “lubricates” keratin and also maintains skin/hair
suDIFerous glands
2 types
1. apocrine
2. eccrine
fxn: temperature control
makes keratin and dies (like a bee). very HYDROPHOBIC protein.
keratinocyte
make melanin, pigments/darkens skin + absorbs UV light
melanocyte
fights infection
langerhans cells
(biological protection)
nervous fxn closely associated with meissners compsites
merkel cells
Corneum(dead)
Lucidum(dead)
Granulosa(alive)
Spinosum(alive)
Basale(alive)
layers of karatinized skin
yellow color on skin
jaundice
bluish color to nail beds and skin
cyanosis
redness of skin
erythema
hair
specialized keratinocytes
fxn: protection+ nervous/sensory
modified eccrine sweat glands that make cerum (earwax)
ceruminous glands
