Chapter 5 Flashcards
The binomial Theorem
A mathematical formula used to expand two term expressions
Binomial Theorem Formula
(a+b)^n = SUM(n,k=0) (n,k) a^n-k b^k
(nk) = N!/K!(n-k)!
when setting up start at n
then take from n and give to b
The remainder theorem
if you divide a polynomial f(x) by (x-h) then the remainder is f(h)
Factor theorem
A polynomial f(x) has a factor (x-h) if and only if f(h) = 0
What is a function
map of a set of numbers to another set of numbers
must pass vertical line test
Input and output rule for functions
Multiple inputs can have same output, same inputs cant have different outputs.
inverse functions
switch x and y then solve for y
Radical function domain
Always check square root!
Rational Functions vertical asymptotes
Set denominator equal to zero
Radical functions horizontal asymptotes
degree of denominator > degree of numinator then @y=0
degree of denominator = degree of numinator then divide leading coefficients
degree of nominator > degree of denominator then its a slant asymptote, calculate by dividing numerator by denominator
Log properties (product)
logb x.y = logbX + logbY
Log properties (quotient)
logb x / logb y = logbX - logbY
Log properties (power)
logbx^y = ylogbx
