Chapter 5 Flashcards
How does GNSS measure position?
It measures its position relative to satellites many times per second.
Changes in position are intergrAted over time to get speed relative to space.
What type of speed does GNSS measure
Ground speed
What are the three methods of determining speed in GNSS?
Distance/time
Doppler shift
Time differenced carried phase (TDCP)
How does the IRS work?
Uses accelerometers in ring laser gyro to sense changes in the aircrafts attitude. It calculates this mathematically.
How does IRS generate ground speed?
Acceleration ps intergrated over time to give speed
Order airspeed is derived into ground speed.
IAS-CAS-EAS-TAS-GS
What does IAS reflect?
Reflects dynamic pressure affecting aircraft
What is CAS correct for
CAS Is IAS corrected for instrument pressure error
What does EAS correct for?
EAS is CAS corrected for compressibility error
What is TAS corrected for?
TAS is EAS corrected for density error
What is ESAD?
Equivalent still air distance. It’s the air nm flown taking into account headwinds or tailwinds
What’s the formula for ESAD?
ESAD=TAS/GS
Does EDAS increase/decrease with headwind/tailwind
HWC= increase in ESAD TWC= decrease in ESAD
