CHAPTER 42 ( INTRO TO CARDIO ) Flashcards
Responsible for delivering oxygen and nutrients to all of the cells of the body and for removing waste products for excretion
CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM
W
A disruption in cardiac rate or rhythm
ARRYTHMIA OR DYSRYHTMIA
“Very serious” arrythmias arise when the combination of ectopic foci and altered conduction set off an irregular, uncoordinated twitching of the atrial or ventricular muscle
FIBRILLATION
Is a “process” of recording the patterns of electrical impulses as they move through the heart
An important diagnostic tool in the care of the cardiac patients
ELECTROCARDIOGRAPHY
“Detects” the patterns of electrical impulse generation and conduction through the heart and translates that information to a recorded patterns
ELECTROCARDIOGRAPHY MACHINE
A measure of electrical activity; provides “NO INFORMATION” about the mechanical activity of the heart.
ELECTROCARDIOGRAM
Where the specialized cells of the heart can “conduct” an impulse rapidly through the system so that the muscle cells of the heart are stimulated at approximately the same time
CONDUCTIVITY
