Sexual relationships
The peer culture acts as a transition period before adolescents reach adult status in the community. As they interact with other young people, they develop their social skills and a sense of belonging and responsibility.
Peer adjustment
During this period, attitudes are formed which remain relatively unchanged throughout life.
Intellectual maturation
Many adolescents make little or no preparation for an occupation. They take courses in school which are easy or which are required of them and not those that will be of practical value to them in later life.
