Chapter 4- Shoulder Girdle Flashcards
The shoulder girdle is also know as
Scapulothoracic
Sternoclavicular (SC)
Multiaxial
Movements:
Protraction(anteriorly)
Retraction(posteriorly)
Elevation(superiorly)
Depression(inferiorly)
Sternoclavicular ligament support
Anterior sc ligament
Posterior sc ligament
Costoclavicular & interclavicular ligaments provide stability against superior displacement
Acromioclavicular (AC)
Often injured
Multiaxial
Total gliding & rotational motion
AC ligament support
Coracoclavicular ligament
Superior AC ligament
Inferior AC ligament
Scapulothoracic
Depends on sc & AC joint
5 muscles primarily involved in shoulder girdle movements
1) trapezius- upper, middle lower
2) rhomboid
3) levator scapula
4) serratus anterior
5) pectoralis minor
Muscles contributing to elevation
Rhomboids
Trapezius(upper& middle)
Levator scapulae
Muscles contributing to depression
Trapezius(lower)
Pectoralis minor
Muscles contributing to protraction
Serratus anterior
Pectoralis minor
Muscles contributing to retraction
Rhomboids
Trapezius(middle &lower)
Muscles contributing to upward rotation
Trapezius (middle &lower)
Serratus anterior
Muscles contributing to downward rotation
Rhomboids
Pectoralis minor
Clavicle & scapula
