Chapter 4: Movement Flashcards
What is the difference between scalar and vector quantity?
A scalar quantity is something that has magnitude however for a vector quantity you need direction.
What formula can be used to determine distance if an object moves at constant velocity /speed?
d = vt
What is the average speed for objects with constant velocity?
For objects with constant velocity, the instant velocity would be equal to the average velocity since the velocity doesn’t change.
The formula for average velocity
d = (Vo + Vf)/2 x t
The formula for average acceleration
Aav = (Vf - Vo)/t
How to use average acceleration to find the velocity?
Vf = Vo + Aav x t
Another formula
Vf^2 = Vo^2 + 2ad
Another formula to find the distance
s = Vot + 1/2at^2
Another formula to memorize
2as = V^2 - Vo^2
What does friction do?
It opposes relative motion or tendency.
What are the types of friction & what do they
do?
There are 2 types of friction static & kinetic.
Static occurs at the tendency of relative motion
meaning it works when the object is at rest.
Kinetic occurs when it’s actually at motion.
Is kinetic friction constant?
Yes, it is constant for each object so that means
the speed of the object has no significance.
What is Kinetic friction proportional to?
Kinetic friction is directly proportional to normal reaction.
What is the formula for kinetic friction?
Fk= μk η anm Uk is constant while being a
coefficient.
What is the formula for Flimiting
Fs = μsn
