Chapter 4 - Linear Motion Flashcards
What is a projectile?
Any object that moves through the air or space, acted on only by gravity (and air resistance, if any.)
What are the components of a vector?
The two vectors at right angles that add up to a given vector.
Does the vertical component of velocity of a projectile have any effect on the horizontal component of velocity of the projectile?
No. The perpendicular components of a vector are independent.
Describe the horizontal component of velocity of a projectile.
The horizontal component of velocity of a projectile remains constant throughout its flight (assuming no air resistance.)
Describe the vertical component of velocity of a projectile.
The vertical component of a projectile’s velocity is like the motion for a freely falling object.
What is the initial vertical velocity of a horizontally launched projectile?
Zero.
What is the range?
The horizontal distance traveled by a projectile.
What launch angle will give you the maximum range for a projectile?
45 degrees.
What is the vertical velocity of a projectile at its highest height?
Zero.
