Chapter 4 - Inorganic Chemistry Flashcards
Edexcel iGCSE Chemistry
Name the gas produced when an alkali metal reacts with water
Hydrogen
Describe how the reactivity of halogens change as you go up the group
Decreases
What is a displacement reaction?
A reaction that occurs when a more reactive element replaces a less reactive element in a compound
if you add chlorine water with potassium bromide solution, what colour will it go?
the colour of Bromine - Orange/Brown
What percentage of the atmosphere is oxygen?
21%
Explain the link between carbon dioxide and global warming
Carbon Dioxide forms a blanket around the Earth’s atmosphere.
This ‘blanket’ allows heat from the Sun to enter the atmosphere but then traps it within the atmosphere. This causes the Earth’s temperature to increase.
what is the equation for the reaction of an acid with a metal
MASH (Metal + Acid =Salt + Hydrogen)
Which is more reactive; Potassium or Lithium?
Potassium
What is the least reactive element in the reactivity series?
Gold
What is the most reactive element in the reactivity series?
Potassium
Which is more reactive; Copper or Hydrogen?
Copper
what element is in the middle of the reactivity series?
Carbon
what happens when a more reactive metal is put in a solution of a less reactive metal salt?
the more reactive metal displaces the less reactive metal from the compound
