Chapter 4 - Extended Surface Filters Flashcards
When would you use an extended surface filter?
When the media preforms more efficiently at lower media velocity such as filters relaying on interception and diffusion principles.
When media resistance is too great to be used in flat sheets
The filter life will be extended
What type of media is used in extended surface filters?
Pleated panel can be cotten, polyester blended, all synthetic or microglass Pocket filters Rigid box type Cell type with separators Mini pleat style
What is an extended surface filter?
Extended surface filter is one in which the filter media is greater then the face area. Media velocity is less than the face velocity.
What are the characteristics of lofted synthetic media?
Fiber sizes up to 30 micrometers and MERV numbers in the 6-10 range
What are the characteristics of synthetic fiber mats?
Synthetic fiber mat is available in spundown with fiber size in the 15-20 range and meltdown with fibers in the 3-10 range. Achieving efficiencies of MERV 8-15 range
What are the characteristics of lofted microglass media?
Also known as glass mat it is made from fine glass microfibers. They cannot be used by themselves as filter media.
