Chapter 4 - Disorders of Movement and Posture Flashcards
What comprises the striatum (neostriarum)?
Putamen and Caudate
What is the hypothesized role of the subthalamic nucleus with regard to the globus pallidus and ventral thalamus?
The subthalamic nucleus exerts an inhibitor or regulating influence on the globus pallidus and ventral thalamus
A lesion in the subthalamic nucleus will result in?
Chorea on the contralateral limb.
What is the hyperdirect pathway?
Activates the subthalamic nucleus directly from the motor cortex
Without the necessity of the intervening striatum
What do you call the bundle of fibers from the GPi that reach the thalamus?
Ansa lenticularis
Fasciculus lenticularis
- Ansa lenticularis - sweeps around the internal capsule
- Fasciculus - traverses the internal capsule in a number of small fascicles and then continues medially and caudally to join the ansa in the prerubral field.
Where would the ansa lenticularis and fasciculus lenticularis meet?
Prerubral field
