Direct Objects-Intro

A

A complete sentence always has a subject (the person or thing performing the action) and a conjugated verb (the action). It may contain an optional element, such as a direct object.
The direct object (el complemento directo) receives the action of the verb. It is the word that answers the questions What? or Whom? and may refer to a thing or a person.

Q

The position in the sentence

A

In English, direct object pronouns are always placed after the verb, but in Spanish the placement depends on the verbal form used in the sentence.

  • Place a direct object pronoun directly in front of a single, conjugated verb.
  • With a verb phrase (conjugated verb + infinitive), place the direct object pronoun directly before the conjugated verb or attach it to the end of the infinitive. Never place object pronouns between the two verbs.
