- Scope and inheritance - The scope of the group policy defines which users and computers are affected by its settings

- Local GPOs are stored on local computers, and edited via the Group Policy Object Editor snap-in
- Domain GPOs are stored in Active Directory on Domain Controllers and are edited in AD.

A group policy template (GPT) is a GPT.ini file created when a GPO is made, that contains all the policy settings and related files to that GPO.
