If an adjective is used before a noun, what is it known as?
An Attributive Adjective.
What is the meaning of an “Attributive Adjective”?
It is an adjective placed before the noun.
What is the opposite of a Predicate Complement?
An Attributive Adjective.
When a verb is used as a Predicate Complement, how does it end?
It does not have any special ending.
When an adjective is placed before a noun, what is the effect?
The adjective has an ending indicating the gender, number and case of the noun.
Will an adjectival phrase such as “Er erfand Sprengstoff” also have the same kind of ending which applies to an Attributive Adjective?
Yes “benutzt-en”.
What is the definition of an adjectival phrase?
The present or past participle is used as an adjective.
What are the three different types of declension?
Weak declension, Strong Declension, and Mixed Declension.
Which forms of declension are similar to each other?
How are they similar to each other?
Mixed and Weak Declension.
The nominative is similar for all genders, (although not for plural). It has a similar “shape” across nominative and accusative, with the same variations between the cases.
When is the weak declension used?
It is typically used after:
- the definite article (the)
- all determiners which end like dieser.
When is the strong declension used?
It is typically used where there is no determiner, or if the determiner has no ending.
What are examples of where a determiner has no ending?
Singular Viel, or Weing (e.g. mil viel kaltem Wasser).
