A Trip to the Grocery Store: video notes

A

cashier greeting kathleen with a positive attitude waiting for kathleen to finish writing her check. -remember kathleen is very white, cashier is chatting up with kathleen.

Then joy comes up, no conversation just a little chatter. joy daughter that is ten notices immediately the differences on how she responds to her mother.. later on when joy writes her check, the cashier asks her immediately that she needs two pieces of I.D, at which point joy daughter looks her in an embarrassing look and starts to tear up. then joy gives her two pieces of I.D because she just had to choose the battles…then later on the cashier pulls out the bad check book, which it shows the people who’ve written bad checks.. then the cashier starts looking on her license then the book to see if her name is on there. kathleen went up to the cashier asked why shes doing this and she responds back saying thats the policy, but she didn’t do that with her, and kathleen responds to her saying because she’s seen her various of times here.

the cashier used her white privileged.

kathaleen used her whited privilege to educate and make right a situation that was wrong.
