Chapter 4 Flashcards
What is cytoplasm?
A jelly like substance made of water, protein, glucose, fat, and other substances used by the cell;the cytoplasm fills the cell and surrounds the organelles inside the cell.
What is a cell membrane?
An external boundary around a cell made of lipids and protein what goes in and out of the cell.
What are the organizations of organisms?
Level 1:cell
Level 2:tissues
Level 3:organs
Level 4:systems
What is Endoplasm Reticulum?
Systems of passageways that allows materials to transport from one part of the cell to another.
What is the largest organelle?
Nucleus.
What are the characteristics of life?
Living things are made of cells
Living things grow and develop
Living things respond to a stimulus in environment
Living things use energy.
What are cells filled with?
Organelles.
What is the nucleus?
The largest organelle in the cell which is like the cell control center.
What is a nuclear pore?
Protein in the nuclear membrane which allows certain things to enter the nucleus.
What is a chromosome?
Tiny bundle of DNA in the nucleus.
What is mitochondria?
Responsible for producing and releasing energy for the cell to use.
What is glucose?
Sugar.
Where do you get glucose from?
Food.
What is endoplasmic reticulum?
System of passageways that allows materials to transport from one part of the cell to another.
What is an organism?
A complete living thing.
