What is sex differentiation?
everyone starts with the same structure and then chromosomes differentiate males and females
What is the mons pubis?
fatty pad of tissue covering the junction where the right and left pubic bone meets at the midline
what are the 3 functions of pubic hair?
- pheromonal signalling
- protection against friction of intercourse
- signals sexual maturity
what is the labia majora?
the outer lips
they have many nerve endings and are important for sexual arousal
they provide protection for the sensitive clitoris and inner lips
what’s the labia minora?
inner lips
important for sexual arousal
labia will vary in appearance for different people
what is the clitoris?
the most common way to achieve arousal and orgasms during masturbation and sex with partners
it is stimulated by internal activity
what is the valvular vestibule?
sensitive entranceway to the vaginal and urethral openings
what is vulvodynia?
a condition which makes the vaginal entrance so sensitive that any kind of penetration is painful
what’s the vaginal opening?
very sensitive region below the vulvar vestibule. they vary in size
what is a hymen?
a thin membrane that partially covers the vaginal opening
what’s the cervix?
opening to the uterus
what’s the vagina?
a Cana that starts at the vaginal opening and extends ip and tilts slightly backward toward the base of the spine
what are the Bartholin glands?
small pair of glands that lea to the right and left of the vagina
what’s the Bartholin glands function?
unknown but may contribute to vaginal lubrication just before orgasm.
what are the skene’s glands?
a pair of glands on the front wall of the vagina and their ducts empty into the urethra
