Ore
Rock or earth from which metal can be taken.
Cash crop
A crop that is grown in large quantities for sale to other people.
Archeologists
Scientists who study human artifacts to learn about past cultures.
Explorers
People who travel to new and unfamiliar places in order to learn what these places are like and describe them with words, pictures and maps
Age of Exploration
A time in history when people from Europe traveled to Africa and the Americas in order to learn about them and make maps of them. The Age of Exploration began in the late 1400s and continued through the 1500s.
New World
A European word for lands in the western hemisphere include North and South America. The Americas were a “new” world for the Europeans but not for the native peoples who already lived there.
