Chapter 4 Flashcards
What is Benign?
Simple tissue overgrowth that doesn’t spread to other Tissue.
What is histology?
The study of tissues.
What is Epithelial tissue (epithelium)?
A barrier separating the body’s constant internal environment from external environment.
Epithelial cells are?
Tightly packed.
What is Columnar?
Long and narrow.
When is epithelium described as simple?
When arranged in a single layer.
Epithelium is a thin barrier where materials can easily pass through. What is an example?
Materials absorbing through the lining of digestive tract to the blood, allowing blood to pass oxygen to body tissue.
What is transitional epithelium capable of?
Great expansion but returns to original form one relaxed
What is an example of transitional epithelium?
The urinary bladder.
What do Exocrine Glands do?
Exocrine glands produce secretions that are carried out of the body.
What are Endocrine Glands?
Endocrine glands secrete directly into surrounding tissue fluid. NOT THROUGH DUCTS.
What do endocrine glands secrete?
Horomones
What tissue is blood?
Connective tissue.
What has a fluid consistency and has cells suspended in a liquid matrix?
Circulating connective tissue.
What are the two types of circulating connective tissue?
Blood in blood vessels, and lymph in the lymphatic vessels.
