A sample that chooses subjects who are easiest to obtain
Convenience Sample
A systematic failure of a sample to represent its population.
Bias
A sample consisting of people who choose themselves by responding to a general invitation
Voluntary response sample
The use of chance to select a sample
Random Sampling
A sample in which every possible group of size n is equally likely to be chosen.
Simple Random Sampling
Classifying the population into groups of similar individuals
Strata
A sampling method where the population is first divided into homogeneous groups.
Stratified random sampling
A sampling method where several heterogeneous groups are chosen at random.
Cluster sample
The result of a sampling method that leaves out some part of a population.
Undercoverage
Bias introduced to a sample when some of the chosen respondents fail to respond.
Nonresponse Bias
Watching individuals and measures variables of interest but does not attempt to influence the responses
Observational Study
Deliberately imposes some treatment on individuals to measure their responses
Experiment
