Chapter 4 Flashcards
What the plasma Membrane controls?
It controls the movement of water, ions, organic molecules, and oxygen in and out of the cells, and also it controls the exit of wastes like carbon dioxide and ammonia.
What is the plasma Membrane?
Is a phospolipid bilayer that has proteins ingrained which function is to separate the contents of the cell from the outside environment.
What is the citoplasm?
Is the region of the cell between the plasma Membrane and the nuclear envelope covering the nucleus. Is important because it contains the organelles floating in cytosol, the cytoskeleton-responsible for giving the cell it’s shape, organizes the organelles, transport molecules, is involved in cell division, molecules transport and cell signaling.
What is the nucleus?
It houses the cell DNA, and directs the synthesis of ribosomes and proteins.
What is a nuclear envelope?
It separates the contents of the nucleus from the rest of the cell. It protects the DNA from the reactions happening outside of the cell.
It also has many proteins that are used in organizing DNA, and regulating genes.
