Chapter 4/1 Correlation/Regression (AS/A-Level) Flashcards
x-axis
Independent/explanatory Variable
y-axis
Dependent/response Variable
Why may some conclusions not be valid?
It is possible that although variables are correlated, there is not necessarily a casual relationship.
What is the form for a regression line
y = a + bx
Interpret the y-intercept (the a value in y = a + bx)
Usually initial bla bla bla
Interpret the gradient (the b value of y = a + bx)
e.g. For every 1 hour of revision, the exam mark increase by bla bla
What is Interpolating?
Estimating a value inside the data range
What is Extrapolating?
Estimating a value outside the data range
Exponential equation
y = ab^x
Re write y = ab^x in terms of logs
logy = loga + xlogb
What is PMCC?
denoted by r, describes the linear correlation between two variables. It can take values between -1 and 1.
r = -1
Perfect Negative
r = 0
No correlation
r = 1
Perfect Positive
