Explain why the result of electrophoresis depends on pH.

A

-NH2 (or CO2-) group can be protonated & the molecule moves towards the negative cathode
-CO2H (or NH3+) group can lose a proton & the molecule moves towards the positive anode
low pH will protonate the amino acid or high pH will deprotonate
