Diphenydramine Works by

A

Occupying the same receptor sites as histamine which prevents histamine from acting on target tissues.
• Drugs are effective in inhibiting vascular permeability, edema formation, bronchoconstriction, pruritis

Hypersensitivity reactions (Allergic rhinits, conjuctivitis, dermatitis)
• Motion sickness
• Insomnia
• Parkinsonism

CNS depression (Drowsiness, sedation)
• CNS stimulation (Anxiety, agitation)
• Anticholinergic effects (Dry mouth, urinary retention, constipation, blurred vision)

Fexofenadine Works by

A

Competiting with histamine for binding sites preventing the activation of cells by histamine. Thus preventing allergy symptoms from occuring. Bc the drug does not cross the blood brain barrier it does not cause drowsiness.
