What are Nasal Polyps
Definition: Grape-shaped benign clusters of the mucosa, may cause obstruction of nasal passages, or be combined with a sinus infection.
Risk Factors: The exact cause is unknown but may be associated with chronic inflammation, allergies, cystic fibrosis, aspirin allergies, or (aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease) which promotes the leukotrienes part of the immune system increasing the inflammation.
Interventions: Controlling allergies symptoms, oral antihistamines, leukotriene antagonists, nasal corticosteroid spray, Antibiotics if sinus infection present, The polyps can be removed in outpatient surgery under local anesthesia with laser or endoscopic surgery. Tell PT to avoid aspirin products that promote bleeding leading to worsening of issue.
What is a Rhinoplasty?
A cosmetic nose procedure reconstructs the nose usually after trauma.
