Chapter 3 - Waves Flashcards
Name the Electromagnetic Spectrum (longest to shortest)
Radio waves Micro waves Infrared radiation Visible light Ultraviolet X-rays Gamma rays
What is the wavelength
the entire cycle of one wave
What is the frequency
The amount of cycles within a period of time
What is the peak or trough
The highest or lowest point of the wave
Give a more scientific explanation of the moving dot in a wave
The direction of oscilliation
Give the two types of wave
Transverse
Longitudinal
What is the Doppler Effect
The Doppler effect is the theory that sound waves become more compressed when a moving object approaches making the pitch become higher
What is red shift and what could it prove
Red shift is the same as the doppler effect but to do with light. If a galaxy is moving away it looks red however if it is moving closer it looks blue. This then proves that the universe is not expanding and the big bang theory is wrong.
