Q

What is the term for e.g. glaciers may melt and flow into rivers, which eventually flows into oceans?

A

Those movements are called flows.

Water can move from one store to another.

Q

Do oceans have low amounts of salt content?

A

No, they have high amounts of salt content. The other water stores contain freshwater, which means that they contain water with low amounts of salt content.

Q

What are rivers?

A

Rivers are natural wide flows of freshwater across the land that store water temporarily before water flows into another water body.

Q

How does soil store water?

A

When it rains, water passes through the soil through very small openings known as pores. Water that is stored in the soil is known as soil moisture.

Q

What is groundwater?

A

Groundwater is found below the surface of the earth. Water enters the ground through pores in the soil due to gravity.

It is also water that seeps into the ground may be absorbed by plants or stored as groundwater.

Q

How does ground water form?

A

When a part of water make its way to the rocks beneath, filling up the pores and cracks of these rocks.

16
Q

What is surface runoff?

A

Water flows form highlands and over the ground surface into streams and rivers.

17
Q

What is evaporation?

A

The sun’s heat causes water to evaporate. Water changes into water vapour.

18
Q

What is transpiration?

A

Plants give out water vapour through their leaves

19
Q

What is condensation?

A

Warm moist air cools as it rises. Water vapour changes into water droplets. Small droplets combine to form bigger droplets.
Large amounts of water gather to form clouds.

20
Q

What is the hydrological cycle?

A

A sequence of processes that occur to ensure that water is naturally replenished on the Earth.

21
Q

What is percolation?

A

Percolation is the process by which water moves downward through the soil under gravitational forces.

22
Q

What is infiltration?

A

Infiltration is the process of water moving through soil and rock layers that make up the Earth’s surface, to be stored as groundwater.
