French and Indian War
(1754-1763) War fought in the colonies between the English and the French for possession of the Ohio Valley area. The English won.
Albany Plan of Union
plan proposed by Benjamin Franklin in 1754 that aimed to unite the 13 colonies for trade, military, and other purposes; the plan was turned down by the colonies and the Crown
Treaty of Paris
agreement signed by British and American leaders that stated the United States of America was a free and independent country
Petition
A formal written request to someone in authority, signed by a group of people.
Boycott
To refuse to buy certain goods and services.
Repeal

court document allowing customs officers to enter any location to search for smuggled goods
Commitees of Correspondence
Commitees created by the Massachussets House of Representatives in the 1760s to help towns and colonies share information about resisting British laws.
Civil Disobedience
Civil disobedience is the nonviolent refusal to obey laws that one considers unjust.

A militia is an army of citizens who serve as soldiers during an emergency
Minutemen
Member of a militia during the American Revolution who could be ready to fight in sixty seconds
Patriots
American colonists who were determined to fight the British until American independence was won
Loyalists
American colonists who remained loyal to Britain and opposed the war for independence
Blockade
A blockade is the shutting of a port to keep people or supplies from moving in or out.
