Ally
Nation that works with another nation for a common purpose.
French and Indian war
A war that took place in 1754 to 1763 that led to the end of French power in North America.
Albany plan of union
The plan was an attempt to create one general government for the British colonies.
treaty of paris
An agreement with Britain and France to bring the long conflict to an end.
petition
A formal written request to someone in authority, signed by a group of people.
Boycott
To refuse to buy certain goods and services.
repeal
Or cancelled, the stamp act.
Writ of Assistance
The officers would be allowed to inspect a ship’s cargo without giving a reason.
committee of correspondence
Members of the committee regularly wrote letters and pamphlets reporting to other colonies on events in Massachusetts.
Civil Disobedience
Nonviolent refusal to obey laws that one considers unjust.
Militia
An army of citizens who serve as soldiers during an emergency.
Minutemen
Keep their muskets at hand and were prepared to fight in a minute’s notice.
Patriots
Colonist who favored war against Britain .
Loyalists
American colonists who remained loyal to Britain , wealthy merchants and former officials of the royal government.
Blockade
Shutting of a port to keep people or supplies from moving in or out.
Mercenary
Or troops for hire, from Germany to help fight the colonists.
Traitor
A person who betrays his or her country.

Rights that belong to all people from birth.
Unalienable rights
Including the rights to be free and to chose how to live.
Calvary
Troops on horseback.
Guerrilla
Hit and run, tactics to harass the British.
Siege
Occurs when an army surrounds and blockades an enemy position in an attempt to capture it.
Ratify
Approved, the treaty of paris.
