Fahrenheit scale
Boiling point of water is 212’F and the freezing point is 32’F
Celsius scale (centigrade scale)
Boiling point 100’C and freezing point is 0’C
civilian time
Morning hours from midnight until noon, after noon, it starts over again with 1.
Military time
Uses a 24-hour scale without AM or PM destinations.
decimal point
Are written by placing digits (0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9) into place value columns that a decimal point separates.
exponent
Short cuts showing multiplication of a number times itself. 10^2 = 10 x 10 or 100
Fraction
A number that represents one or more equal parts of a whole (Latin means “fraction” to break into pieces). A fraction is a quotient- a number that can be written in an a/b or a over b form, where b is never equal to 0.
metric system
(Also called International System) is the international standard of weights and measurement used by scientists and engineers everywhere. Developed by the French in the 18th century, today is the preferred system for prescribing and administering medications.
percentage
Are special types of fractions that mean “per every hundred” the denominator is always understood to be 100. % is the symbol.
Example- 25%
Proportion
Statement of equality between ratios a/b=c/d or a:b = c:d
Ratios
A comparison of two numbers, a and b, expressed a:b or a/b or a over b
Relative value
Decimal number determines by looking at the spaces to the left or the decimal point. The more spaces, the higher the value.
