Chapter 3 Science Flashcards
Genetics
The study of heridy
Heridy
The process by which parents pass characteristics or traits onto their children
Gregor Mendel
Austrian monk
Called the father of genetics
Studied pea plants
What does every organism have
A set of genes that control a particular characteristics. Genes occur in pairs know as an allele
Dominate
If one allele masks the effect is the other allele
Recessive
The allele that is masks by the dominate allele
What is pure
An organism that carries out two dominate and two recessive allele for a given trait
What is hybrid
An organism that carries out both a dominate and a recessive allele for certain trait

Genes
Carry out the information of the structure of the whole human body
Mutation
The sudden alteration of a gene
Encephalitis…have to do with west Nile encephalitis
Inflamation of the Brain
Transmitted by mosquitoes
Infected with the virus
How do mosquitoes become infected
By feeding on infected birds
Bird flu
And infection in birds caused by influenza virus
Highly contagious
Rabies
Virus transmitted by infected saliva through blade or wound
How do biotic factors effect a human body
Diseases are spread to humans from direct contact with animals being bitten by a bug that bit an infected animal or by ingesting or handling food or water content contaminated with animals feces
