Chapter 3 - Representation Of Data Flashcards
1
Q
How is an outlier represented on a box plot?
A
As an x on the graph
2
Q
What are the advantages of box plots?
A
- helps see the spread of data easily
- plot is clear and easy to understand
- uses the range and median values
- easy to compare the stratified data
3
Q
What are the disadvantages of box plots?
A
- original data is not clearly shown
- mean and mode cannot be identified
- can be easily misinterpreted
- if there are large amount of outliers the box plot is likely to give an incorrect representation
4
Q
What should you describe when comparing distributions?
A
Median & IQR maybe the quartiles
5
Q
When are histograms used?
A
- continuous variables
- data is given in a frequency table
