Chapter 3: Particle model of matter Flashcards
1
Q
What is specific latent heat?
A
The amount of energy required for 1kg of a substance to change state. The energy required to change the state of 1kg of a substance with no change in temperature. E = mL
2
Q
What is the particle model of gases?
A
A theory explaining the behaviour of gases which explains that:
- Particles in a gas are in a constant state of random motion
- Particles in a gas collide with each other and the walls of their container without losing any kinetic energy
- As the kinetic energy of the molecules increases, the temperature of the gas increases
- The temperature of the gas is related to the average kinetic energy of all the particles
3
Q
What is pressure?
A
The force per unit area which gas particles exert on each other and the walls of their container
4
Q
What is the formula that links pressure and volume?
A
Pressure * volume = constant
