When does organogenesis occur? What does three germ layers give rise to?
A
- The period of organogenesis primarily lasts from weeks 3 to 8 after conception (i.e., weeks 5 to 10 gestational age [GA]) and is the time when most of the major organ systems are formed.
3 Germ layers:
Endodermal layer–> GI and respiratory systems
Mesodermal layer–> Cardiovascular, musculoskeletal and genitourinary systems
Ectodermal layer–> Nervous system, skin and many sensory organs (ex. hair, eyes, nose and ears)
