Abdominal Cavity
Located at the front of the body in the ventral cavity, and within the abdominopelvic cavity. Contains the stomach, liver, and intestines.

Left Iliac Region
Also referred to as the left inguinal region. Located lateral to the side of the umbilical region. Contains the descending colon, sigmoid colon, and portions of the small intestine
Left Lower Quadrant (LLQ)
Contains most of small intestine, and portions of large intestine, left ureter, and reproductive organs (left ovary in female and left spermatic cord in male). Munro’s point is located in this quadrant (halfway between the navel and the hipbone)
Left Lumbar Region
Located laterally to the left of the umbilical region. Contains the descending colon and partial views of the kidney and small intestine.
Left Upper Quadrant (LUQ)
Consists of the liver (small portion), spleen, left kidney, stomach, colon, pancreas (majority), and small intestine.

Pelvic Cavity

Right Hypochondriac Region
Located superior to the right lumbar region, and below the ribs. Contains the liver, gall bladder, small intestine, ascending colon, transverse colon, and right kidney.
Right Iliac Region
Located lateral to the side of the hypogratric region. Also referred to as the right inguinal region. contains the cecum, parts of the small intestine, and appendix.
Right Lower Quadrant (RLQ)
Contains parts of the small and large intestines, right ovary, right fallopian tube, appendix, and right ureter. McBurney’s point is located within this quadrant ( the are that is approximately two thirds of the distance between the navel and the hip bone)
Right Lumbar Region
Located laterally to the right of the umbilical region. contains the rip of the liver gallbladder, small intestine, ascending colon, and right kidney.
Right Upper Quadrant (RUQ)
Contains majority of liver, gallbladder, a small portion of the pancreas, right kidney, small intestine, and colon.
Sagittal Plane
Vertical plane that separates the sides from each other; makes a division into right and left portions.
