Good Samaritan laws
Encourage people to help others in emergency
Gives legal protection to people who provide the care
Use common sense and reasonable level of skill
Bleeding and wounds
Clean cloth or gauze and gloved hand over wound, pressure
911 if severe
Elevate arm or leg above heart
Secure cloth when bleeding stops
Chemical Burns
Rinse all traces of chemicals from clothing
Cover burn loosely with clean dry cloth
Refer person to medical personnel if necessary
Heat or electrical burn
If skin not broken, immerse in cool water or gently apply cool compress, bandage with clean dry cloth
Do not break blister if formed, no ointment
If broken or severe, 911, do not clean wound, cover loosely
Choking
Can victim talk or cough. If not , have someone call 911 while you give abdominal thrusts
Stand behind, wrap arm around stomach
Make thumbless fist with one hand and place the fist just above the navel and well below the ribs, with thumb and forefinger side towards the victim
Upward ab thrusts by grasping fist with other hand and pulling quickly toward you
Fainting
Lay person down on back, allow plenty of fresh air
Reassure victim and apply cold compress to face
If vomits, roll them onto their side to keep windpipe clear
Chemical eye injury
Hold eyelids apart and flush eyeball with lukewarm water for 15-30 min, don’t let it run into other eye.
Place gauze pad over both eyes, secure with bandage
Get to emergency room
Cuts embedded object in eye
Place cloth over both eyes and secure with bandage
Do not try to remove object
Get to emergency room
