What are the Ovaries?
A pair of small glands.
What does the Ovaries produce?
Female sex hormones (estrogens and progesterone) as well as ova (eggs), female gametes.
What are the Fallopian Tubes?
Are funnel-shaped passages next to the ovary.
The Fallopian Tubes have a number of finger-like projections on the end near the ovary known as?
Fimbriae.
What happens after an egg is released by the ovary?
It is “caught” by one of the fimbriae and transported along the fallopian tube to the uterus.
When does fertilization may occur if a sperm penetrates the egg?
Down the fallopian tube.
What is the Uterus?
A hollow organ that houses a developing fertilized egg.
What are the three layers that composed the thick wall of the Uterus?
Perimetrium, Myometrium and Endometrium.
What is the function of the Perimetrium layer?
Lines the outside of the uterus.
The Myocardium layer is made up of?
Primarily smooth muscle.
What happens if there is no pregnancy to the Endometrium layer ?
The layer will shed if no pregnancy occurs.
What is the Cervix?
The lower, narrow end of the uterus that forms a canal between the uterus and vagina.
What is the Vagina?
An elastic, muscular tube that connects the cervix of the uterus to the exterior of the body.
What does the vagina functions as for the penis during sexual intercourse?
As the receptacle.
What does the vagina servers as during childbirth?
As birth canal of the fetus during childbirth.
