The building blocks of ASEAN are:

In support of these agreements are facilitation measures which include the ASEAN Agreement on Movement of Natural Persons (AAMNP) and Mutual Recognition Arrangements on Services (MIRAS).
The predecessor to the ASEAN Economic Community was the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA), mandated in
1992
